Dr P K Warrier honoured on 90th birthday

KOTTAKKAL: Recalling the valuable contributions of Dr P K Warrier in promoting ayurveda to an internationally acclaimed medicinal system, the Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran said that such persons are rare in the society. He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the 90th birthday celebrations of Dr P K Warrier at the P M Auditorium in Kottakkal on Sunday.
"Dr Warrier nurtured a perspective of holistic approach with due respect for other systems of medicine," he added.
Mullappally also lauded his contributions to the medical literature. He mentioned how the hospital conserves and maintains rare medicinal plants at one of the largest medicinal plantations in the country.
Describing eminent ayurvedic physician Dr P K Warrier as a revolutionary socialist, Mullappally recalled Warrier's early days when his affinity for socialism made him one of the pioneering members of the Student Federation, and his strong opposition to fascism and war. "Since Warrier turned to full-scale medical service, Kerala politics lost an incomparable personality who always sticks to truth," he added.
Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed, who presided over the function, said that P K Warrier and Arya Vaidya Sala made ayurveda more relevant globally through service to the public. Releasing the souvenir at the function, Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan said that contributions of Warrier and Arya Vaidya Sala in raising the fame of ayurveda and Kerala are incomparable.
